Chorus master
Tvrtko Karlovič (b. 1963 in Sarajevo, Bosna), studied choir and orchestra conducting with Julio Maric at the Music Academy in Sarajevo, from which he graduated in 1987. From 1991–1993, he pursued his studies of conducting on scholarship, with František Vajnar at the Academy of Music in Prague. His previous commitments in the Czech Republic involved engagements at the F.X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec, the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava, and from 1993–1996, the post of chorusmaster at the Prague State Opera. Since 1996, he has been conductor at the Northern Bohemia Opera and Ballet Theatre in Ústí nad Labem. While at Ostrava, he conducted the company’s production of Eugene Onegin, among others. At the Gars am Kamp Summer Festival (Austria), he presented his readings of Il trovatore, Aida, La traviata, and Carmen. Finally, at Ústí nad Labem, he has conducted the operas, Carmen, Un ballo in maschera, Rigoletto, La traviata, Ezio, Faust, Aida, La bohème, and Die Zauberflöte; the ballets, Romeo and Juliet, The Bakhchisaray Fountain, Casanova and Coppélia; the operettas, Die Fledermaus, The Czardas Princess, A Night in Venice, The Land of Smiles, Countess Marica, The Gypsy Baron and Rose Marie; and the musical, Sugar. Starting from the 2006/2007 season, he has been appointed principal chorus master of the Prague State Opera.
