Rubén Amoretti

Rubén Amoretti, a bass of Italian-Spanish parentage, has focused since his tender age on the Hispanic repertoire. Between 1982 and 1989, he worked chiefly with Spanish ensembles taking part in various festivals (Madrid, Avignon, Paris, Munich, Lisbon, Mexico City). After studies of opera singing in Switzerland and the United States, he obtained his first engagement, by the Indiana University Opera in Bloomington, Indiana, USA. He has so far appeared on many operatic stages (Zurich, Berne, Geneva, Lausanne, Palm Beach, Rome, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Toulouse, and others). His repertoire encompasses an extensive gallery of roles, including Don Giovanni and Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Mephistopheles (Boito, Gounod, Berlioz), Ramphis (Aida), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Philip II (Don Carlos), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Colline (La Bohème), or Scarpia (Tosca). He has worked with many renowned conductors (Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marcello Viotti, Alain Lombard, and others), and has performed opposite José Carreras, Alfredo Kraus, Agnes Baltsa, Roberto Alagna, Juan Diego Flórez, Juan Pons, Daniela Dessi. His nearest future commitments include the parts of Mephistopheles in Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust (Mexico City, opposite Ramón Vargas), Leporello in Don Giovanni (Jerez de la Frontera), and Mephisto in Gounod’s Faust (Swiss tour).

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
