Milan Bürger

Soloist of the Prague State Opera

A graduate of the vocal department of the Prague Conservatory in the class of Alfred Hampel, Milan Bürger had his first regular engagements at the F. X. Šalda Theater in Liberec, then in the J. K. Tyl Theater in Plzeň. Since 1996 he has been a soloist with the Prague State Opera. He has performed a broad range of bass roles from the Czech and worldwide repertoire (The Water Goblin, Kecal, the Jailer Beneš, the quadruple role of the Devil in The Tales of Hoffmann, Mephistopheles, Philip II, etc.). In the State Opera Prague audiences can experience his metallic voice and flexible acting abilities in the roles of Sarastro in The Magic Flute, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, the King in Aida, Ferrando in Il Trovatore, the Sacristan in Tosca, and others. He devotes himself intensively also to concert singing, often performing in oratorios and song cycles.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
