Martina Chylíková, a Czech mezzo-soprano who lives in the USA (Tucson, Arizona) graduated from South Bohemian University in České Budějovice (as a teacher of singing), and obtained her B. A. and M. A. in singing at Arizona University. She studied singing with Dr. Jiří Fuchs, Dr. George Gibson, and currently with Faye Robinson. In the years 1999 and 2000, she placed second in the NATS contest, Phoenix (Arizona), in 2000 she staged with enormous success the role of Mrs Herring in the opera Albert Herring by B. Britten, and took part in the Bel Canto Festival in Portland. One year later, she won the NATS contest in Tucson and placed fourth in the Ema Destinnová International Opera Competition in the Czech Republic. In 2003 she won the President Concerto contest at Arizona University. Martina Chylíková has already staged a long list of roles – Second Lady in Magic Flute by Mozart, Angelina in La Cenerentola by Rossini, Rosina in The Barber of Seville (The F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec), Meg Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor (Otto Nicolai), Cherub (Le Nozze di Figaro), Baby in Menotti’s opera Medium and Jo in Little Women by Mark Adam. The past two seasons were particularly successful for Martina Chylíková: she won two prestigious singing contests – the Amelie Reimann and the Marguerite Ough competitions in the USA.
