Magda Málková

Soprano Magda Málková studied with František Hrabal at the Brno Conservatory. She embarked on her career at Opava (1986 – 1990), and since 1991 has been a soloist of the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc. She has to her credit a remarkable gallery of roles, ranging from Olga (Tchaikovsky, Eugene Onegin) and Orfeo (Gluck, Orfeo ed Euridice), to Papagena (Mozart, Die Zauberflöte), Dorabella (Mozart, Così fan tutte), Agathe (Weber, Der Freischütz), Donna Anna (Mozart, Don Giovanni), Musetta (Puccini, La bohème), to Rosalinde (J. Strauss, Die Fledermaus), or Lisa (Lehár, Das Land des Lächelns). Her true domain, though, have been dramatic soprano parts, such as the Foreign Princess (Dvořák, Rusalka), the title role in Puccini’s Tosca, Kostelnička (Janáček, Jenůfa), Santuzza (Mascagni, Cavalleria rusticana), Lady Macbeth (Verdi, Macbeth), Abigaille (Verdi, Nabucco), Senta (Wagner, Der fliegende Holländer), Lisa (Tchaikovsky, The Queen of Spades), or Milada (Smetana, Dalibor), among others.

Magda Málková has guest appeared at the National Theatre in Brno (as Abigaille), and has created the title part in the new production of Turandot at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň (premiere June 12, 2010). At the Prague State Opera, she has guest appeared since 2005, as Foreign Princess, Abigaille, and Turandot; with this last role, she joined the Prague State Opera ensemble on a visit to Salzburg in 2008.

Tomáš Vrbka
The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
