Jitka Burgetová

Soloist of the Prague State Opera

A graduate of the Prague State Conservatoire, the soprano Jitka Burgetova continued her musical education during a study stay at the Academy of Musical Arts in Sofia and at present further improves her singing with private teachers.

On the stage of the Prague State Opera she has already sung a number of important parts, e.g. Rusalka, Xenia (Dimitry), Mimi (both Leoncavallo’s and Puccini’s La Boheme), Liu (Turandot), Cio-Cio-San (Madame Butterfly), Micaela (Carmen) and Alice (Meyerbeer’s Robert the Devil).

From 2001 to 2003 she was a soloist of the Municipal Theatre of Usti nad Labem, where she sang e.g. Marenka (The Bartered Bride), Princess (The Devil and Kate), Giorgetta (Puccini’s The Cloak), Rosemarie (Rosemarie) and Tatyana (Eugen Onegin). Her remarkable singing and acting in the role of Tatyana drew attention of the Audience Jury of the “Opera 2003” festival, helping the Municipal Theatre win an award for its production of Tchaikovski’s work. The same role brought Ms. Burgetova success in 2005 at the festival “Loketske kulturni leto”. For her performance as Giorgetta in Puccini’s opera The Cloak she was shortlisted for the prestigious Thalia 2004 award.

Since 2005 Ms. Burgetova has been a regular guest singer on the stage of the National Theatre of Moravia and Silesia in Ostrava, where she successfully performed the title part of Dvorak’s Rusalka and appeared as Manon in the new production of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. Ms. Burgetova also gives concert performances; her repertoire includes songs and oratories by the classics of the genre as well as modern authors.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
