Jan Ondráček

The tenor Jan Ondráček was born in Bernburg (Sachsen-Anhalt). He majored in singing at the State Conservatoire in Prague under the guidance of Professor Alfred Hampel. Currently, he takes singing lessons with Marie Urbanová. Ondráček was engaged at the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice (W. A. Mozart: The Magic Flute, B. Smetana: The Secret). He debuted at the National Theatre in Prague in W. A. Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and B.Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. Ondráček has been appearing on the opera stage of the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen (V. Bellini: The Capulets and the Montagues, R. Wagner: The Flying Dutchman). At the Prague State Opera he performed several opera roles. He toured Germany and Japan. Ondráček’s oratory repertoire includes Mozart’s Requiem, Gounodov’s Messe solennelle en l’honneur de Sainte Cécile, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater and Janáček’s Our Father. In collaboration with Michael Keprt, the Prague State Opera’s conductor, Ondráček prepared the vocal cycle of F. Schubert Die schöne Müllerin.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
