Serbian bass Ivan Tomašev was born in Belgrade. While still a student, he won the Jugoslav Opera Singers Competition and soon thereafter became a member of the Novi Sad Opera company. During the three ensuing years he was a permanent guest of the Zagreb Opera, where he created major roles, chiefly in the Italian repertoire. Subsequently, he became a permanent member of the Belgrade Opera, where he has performed to this day in numerous roles in works by Serb and European composers. His repertoire comprises the parts of, among others, Zaccaria (Nabucco), Attila, Ferrando (Il trovatore), Ramphis (Aida), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Boris Godunov, or Gremin (Eugene Onegin). Ivan Tomašev has guest appeared on many operatic stages, most notably in Italy (Brescia, Cagliari, Trieste, Piacenza, Genoa), as well as in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.
