Irena Bozhedomova

Guest of Prague State Opera

A Russian soprano, born in Tumen in Siberia. She studied opera singing at the State Conservatory in Moscow. In the years 1989–1991 she was a soloist of Divadlo hudební komedie (Theatre of Musical Commedy), where she sang e.g. Rosalinde in The Bat or Hanna in The Merry Widow. During 1991–1994 Irina Bozhedomova was a soloist at the Moscow Theatre of Music. She taught at the Moscow Academy in 1994–1998, and in the years 1998–2001 she had an engagement in the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Later she became a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and in the 2004/2005 season she was a soloist of Prague State Opera. In her repertory she has roles such as Leonora in Il trovatore, Tosca, Turandot, Aida, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, Amneris in Aida, or Marina Mnishkova in Boris Godunovov.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
