Filip Veverka

After graduation from the Dance Conservatory in Brno, he obtained an engagement with the Prague National Theatre, where he spent seven years working as a soloist with choreographers Jiří Kylián, Yuri Grigorovich and Boris Bregvadze. His creation of Petruchio in Cranko’s The Taming of the Shrew earned him a Thalia Award. He has guest appeared at the J.K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, and at the National Theatre in Brno. In 2003 he joined Tulsa Ballet, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he spent two seasons. Subsequent years saw him as a solo dancer with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he was cast most notably in Yuri Vàmos’ choreographies. His highlights there included the parts of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet; Albert and Hilarion in Giselle; Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream; the Prince in The Nutcracker and the same part in The Sleeping Beauty; Basil in Don Quijote; Alfonso in The Jewess of Toledo; and the title parts in Spartacus and Sorel (after Stendhal’s novel, Le rouge et le noir). In the 2009/10 season, Filip Veverka was soloist of the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm. Over the last few years, he guest appeared at the Prague State Opera several times as the Prince in Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, and on January 23, 2010 awed the first-night audience with his creation of the Stranger in the company’s production of The Sleeping Beauty – the Czar’s Last Daughter. Starting from the 2010/11 season, he is entering into a permanent engagement with the Prague State Opera.
