Eva Děpoltová

A new soloist of the Prague State Opera appeared on the stage already before graduating at the Prague Academy of Arts in one of the most difficult parts of the Czech repertoire – Milada in Smetana’s Dalibor, and Aida following in the wake. She made the full use of her first engagement in Ostrava and Bratislava to study the greatest soprano parts of the Czech and Italian operatic repertoire. At the Prague National Theatre she sang Krasava in Smetana’s Libuše on the occasion of the re-opening of the National Theatre, Donna Anna on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Don Giovanni first night in the Theatre of the Estates in Prague, Mozart’s Fiordiligi, Beethoven’s Leonora, Puccini’s Tosca, Butterfly, Turandot, Verdi’s Violetta, Elisabeth, and Leonora in La forza del destino and Il trovatore. She has performed with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra – not only in Prague but also in Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Japan, she has been a guest performer in many foreign opera houses. She performes on the stage of the Prague State Opera Turandot and Abigaille (Verdi, Nabucco).

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
