David Uličník

Guest of the State Opera Prague

He attended classes of singing at the People’s School of Arts in Kroměříž, then he commuted two years in order to take courses of singing at the Prague rock school Come To Jam, and in 1997–2001 he studied singing with Professor Klezla at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatoire in Prague. Now, he studies opera singing with Professor Marta Boháčová. As a soloist, he participated in the prestigious international staging of L. Bernstein’s Mass, under the baton of Austrian conductor Caspar Richter, performed at Prague Castle (1997), in the Rondo Hall in Brno (2001) and in Passau, Germany (2002). He played Paul and Hiram in the Prague production of Hair directed by Karel David and Radek Balaš, Karel in The Hop Pickers directed by Petr Kracík, Steven in Dracula directed by Jozef Bednárik and Buddha in the opera Divine Comedy by Martin Kumžák, premiered on the stage of the Prague State Opera. He performed at the Municipal Theatre in Brno in the musicals Babylon as Europ, and World Full of Angels as the Guardian Angel, directed by Stanislav Moša, and also as Cosimo di Medici in Janek Ledecký’s musical Galileo (direction: Šimon Caban). He acted as Marcus Antonius and Octavianus in the musical Cleopatra. In the musical Miss Saigon directed by Petr Novotný, he performed the role of the US GI John (which has won him a nomination for Thálie Prix in the category of musical/operetta). Currently, he performs the main role of Jean Valjean in the musical Les Misérables (direction: Petr Novotný); he plays Tony in L. Bernstein’s West Side Story directed by Jan Pecha at the Theatre of Music in Karlín.
