Dagmar Vaňkátová

The soprano singer Dagmar Vankatova studied singing at the Prague Conservatory, she was a student of professors V. Passerova and M. Bohacova. She paticipated in several singing competitions, e.g. International Singing Competition of Antonin Dvorak in Carlsbad or in Mozart's Prague. Dutiny years 1982–1989 she got several awards there.

After graduating at the Prague Conservatory she became a soloist of Chamber Opera Prague (later Opera Mozart) where she studied the main Mozart's roles of Susanna, Despina, Blonda or Königin der Nacht, or also the role of Angel in Myslivecek's oratorium Abramo et Isacco. She has been a member of the State Opera Prague since 1996 and beside others she added to the previously studied roles also Fiorilla in Rossini's Il Turco in Italia, Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, Lucia in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor and many others.

She is very much engaged in concerts, beside the Czech Republic and member countries of EU she performed also in Japan. She is a sought-after interpret of chamber and oratorio music of all styles and periods. She is also involved in contemporary authors' works: F. X. Thuri wrote for her a soprano role in Water Music for Cesky Krumlov and she was the first in our country to interpret H. P. Birtwistle's composition The Woman and the Hare. Dagmar Vankatova collaborated as well in some recordings of mainly spiritual music, e.g. of the works by B. M. Cernohorsky or J. J. Ryba.

The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
