Anna Todorova

Solist of the Prague State Opera

The soprano Anna Ivanova–Todorova was born in Bulgaria, graduated from the State Academy of Music in Sofia, in 1993 made her debut on the stage of the Sofia National Opera as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute, and ever since appeared in many great roles of the world repertoire at this stage: Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Cunegonde in Bernstein’s Candide, title role in Verdi’s Luisa Miller or Rachel in Halevy’s La Juive. At the same time she was giving many concerts and appeared as guest at various Bulgarian stages. In 1998 she became laureate of the 35th International Singing Contest Francisco Vinas in Barcelona, Spain. In the 1997/1998 season Ivanova-Todorova moved to the Czech Republic to appear in the role of Lucia in the new production of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in the Pilsen J. K. Tyl Theatre. Two years later she was invited back to perform the role of Violetta in La traviata and Margherita in Boit’s Mefistofele. In 1998 she appeared in the role of Donna Anna in the international staging of Don Giovanni with the Prague Opera Mozart. In the same year she became soloist of the Prague State Opera where she appeared in the roles of Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute or Marina Mnishkova in Dvořák’s Dimitrij. At the stage of the Prague State Opera Ivanova-Todorova also appeared in the world premieres of the operas Die Fysiker by Andreas Pflüger (2000) and Joseph Merrick dit Elephant Man by Laurent Petitgirard (2002). With the Pilsen Opera, Opera Mozart and the Prague State Opera Ivanova-Todorova toured in Danmark, Japan and other countries. Her concert repertoire includes the works by A. Vivaldi, G. Pergolesi, W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, G. Verdi and other composers.
