Andrea Lory

Romanian soprano Andrea Lory graduated from the George Enescu Academy in Bucharest, in 1990. The winner of several prestigious international contests (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Vincenzo Bellini, Italy, both in 1991), in 1992 she reached the final of the Luciano Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia. Since 1992 she has been soloist of the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest. She has toured extensively, including three visits of Japan (as Violetta in La traviata, in the title part of Madama Butterfly, and as Micaela in Carmen), and appearances in Bangkok, Thailand (as Liu in Turandot), and in Vilnius, Lithuania (as Leonora in La forza del destino). Apart from these parts, her repertoire encompasses a formidable gallery of roles including Norma, Mimi (La bohème), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Elvira (Ernani), Aida, Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Marguerite (Faust), Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), and others. She has appeared in opera productions and on concert platforms in Rome, Catania, Modena, Cleveland, Vienna, Bucharest, and other venues.

The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
