Soloist of Prague Sate Opera
Mezzo soprano Andrea Kalivodová was born in Kroměříž in 1977. She graduated from the Brno Conservatoire with Professor Jarmila Janíčková and from HAMU (Academy of Music and Drama) in Prague with Professor Naděžda Kniplová. She took part in International Master Classes led by Ralf Düring, Franz Lukasowski, Alexe Gall, Eva Blahová, Fabio Luisi, Otto Schenk amongst others, and spent one year on a study visit at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. Andrea Kalivodová has taken part in many competitions. In 2001 she won 1st Prize of the Emmy Destinn Foundation in London and was invited to participate at a young singers' concert at Covent Garden. She reached the Belvedere semi finals in Vienna. In May 2000 Andrea won the International Singing Contest in České Budějovice and won 3rd Prize in the category of songs at the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in 2003.
In 2001 Andrea Kalivodová debuted in the Project Bušení do železné opony / Banging on the Iron Curtain (a set of two operas by Vladimír Wimmer) at the Prague State Opera, and one year later at the Ostrava National Theatre as Konchakovna in Prince Igor. In the autumn of the same year she took part in a tour with the Opera Praha production of the Xerxes. Since 2003 she has been the soloist of State Opera Prague where she has appeared in a number of roles, such as the Third Lady (The Magic Flute), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Rosalia (The Lowland), Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor), Ježibaba (the Old Witch) (Rusalka), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Fenena (Nabucco), and especially the title role of Carmen which she also sang in the State Opera Košice, Slovakia, and guest-sang in Szopron, Hungary.
She appeared at the Prague Žofín alongside the New York Metropolitan Opera soloist Leo Nucci in December 2003. In June 2004 she took part at the Vienna Konzerthaus Gala concert marking the Czech Republic's accession to the European Union. Andrea Kalivodová gives regular concerts in Europe and has also visited Japan, Korea and the U.S.A. several times. In 2005 she took part in the European Tour of Stars to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II (Bozar Palace in Brussels, Kremlin Concert Palace in Moscow). She has been co-operating with such conductors as Gaspar Zehndler, Enrico Dovico, Hilary Griffiths, Fabio Luisi and others. Apart from opera singing, she also appears in musicals.
