After the significant success of the musicals A Midsummer Night’s Dreams, The Bastard, The Babylon or The World Full of Angels, the original couple of authors, Zdenek Merta and Stanislav Moša, wrote their first opera with the title La Roulette. Its central characters are Vitus and his wife Sarah who after having visited Casino become victims of a bizarre vicious circle of coincidences and situational turn points. Are we just a part of the game, which is whelming us, or are we able to influence it? That is the question the opera authors pose in the first place. In the opera, the real persons appear side by side with the dream creatures in many bizarre environments. “It is a kind of surrealistic detective story,” says Zdenek Merta, the author of the magical and at the same time melodic music of this original work.
