Born in Mexico City, David Lomeli is quickly gaining notice for the beauty of his voice. A first-prize winner in Placido Domingo’s 2006 Operalia, Mr. Lomeli is the first Mexican tenor ever to have won the First Prize, and the first singer ever to win both the opera and zarzuela divisions in the world-renowned singing competition.

During the 2008/2009 season, Mr. Lomeli was heard as Rodolfo in La bohème at Theatre Basel in Basel, Switzerland under the baton of Maurizio Barbacini and joined San Francisco Opera as a member of the prestigious Adler Fellowship Program. In the summer of 2009, he made his San Francisco Opera debut as Alfredo in La Traviata, conducted by Donald Runnicles. Also during the 2008/2009 season Mr. Lomeli made his company debut with Madison Opera singing the title role of Gounod’s Faust, and concluded his season with a concert appearance at Bad Kissingen as part of the Kissinger Sommer. Autumn 2009 he returned to San Francisco Opera to create Rinuccio in Gianni Schicci a made his debut at Dijon, France as the Duke in Rigoletto. In March 2010 he will sing tenor solo part in Verdi´s Requiem together with Berlin Philharmonic orchestra under the baton of Mariss Jansons. During the following seasons he will perform in Deutsche Oper Berlin, Santa Fe Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Houston Grand Opera, Cologne Opera, and Oper Frankfurt. Most recently, Mr. Lomeli stepped in at the last moment to replace world famous tenor Rolando Villazón at the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico City in a Gala concert to celebrate the tenth anniversary of S.I.V.A.M., Mexico’s most prestigious Young Artist Development Program.

Mr. Lomeli studied at the Accademia de Perfezionamento per Cantanti Lirici alla Scala and has worked with such distinguished authorities as Plácido Domingo, James Conlon, Gustavo Dudamel, and others. He is a recipient of both the Plácido Domingo and Pepita Serrano scholarships. Mr. Lomeli’s repertoire includes Alfredo in La Traviata, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Rodolfo in La bohème, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, the title role in Faust, Macduff in Macbeth, and the Duke in Rigoletto.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
