Today Její pastorkyňa (Her Stepdaughter, known in English-speaking countries by the stepdaughter's name, Jenůfa) is an opera that theatres all over the world include in their repertoires on a regular basis. Janáček's music and the captivating story appeal to more and more theatre-goers. The dramatic tale, which still draws attention and provides food for thought, presents human relations shaped by the harsh environment of a closed community, where each person lives constantly under the watch of others. The social hierarchy determines one's position, which binds one, and the only liberation from the ambience of intolerance is radical departure. This environment affects the life of Jenůfa and above all influences the conduct of her stepmother, the Kostelnička (sacristan), who strives to maintain her position and the respect of the whole village at any cost.
The performance is a part of the program of festival Opera 2007.
